The Heart of CityFolk

Was on the road this past weekend. Did some creative listening to different artists and compared how they use different images to paint pictures in their songs. One of my favorite ones deals with water. How it flows, how it ripples when a stone is thrown in it and just how it represents life. In that i saw things like: It constantly flows and you can't stop it. You can dam it up, but it will eventually continue on. When stagnate it dies. An object thrown in water causes ripples which cover the entire surface and even bounce back.
Through this you can say that life starts and ends...until death and then some believe it continues on after that in a sea of everafter. Anything you do/see/feel can ripple through your entire being...causing pleasure or pain. Life may be calm and peaceful like a lake or choppy like a sea with violent waves.
Interesting images. Sounds like some good images for songs to come, if not from me...someone else will surely notice such things.

Here is one i am pondering to record soon...

Between us
9/29/07
Kirk Whitaker

between us there is nothing to hide
no point of contention, no reason to lie
transparent reality, absolute neutrality
no bridges to cross, no bridges to burn

chorus
between us the boundaries are gone like the wind
we cross to the nether and back again with no effort at all
between us the bond is assured by knowledge of what lies ahead
we share the same journey, we share the same ends

between us there is an evolution
no need for payment or restitution
a chemical balance of wonder and why
mixed with i love you no need of good bye

rpt chorus

solo

between us between us between us between us
nothing can come nothing can hide nothing can break nothing can die

chorus

need to do a little more work on it...but it plays on a similar theme....

Very interesting...can't wait to see how it comes out. first two verses set you up for a chorus/bridge...looking for a resolution to the question of what/who do these people love and where are they going from here or what is the next question for them to consider. Nice foundation...like i said...should make a nice song and can't wait to hear what you do with it.

Thank for your open-mindedness deliberation Kirk,

Interesting images. Sounds like some good images for songs to come, indeed. I feel that feelings or mood to creative songwriting can come from small reflections or moments that one experiences.
I take my topic from real life, sometimes from my own life. A topic can also be abstract like in the one I´m working at the moment. Working title is "To The Ground". Here`s a raw sketch..

"To The Ground" by Thom Heatly (2008©)
you said it right
you said it wisely
why would we bother?
Those books stay closed
these eyes look the other way
and panic starts to rise

and it rises to your front door
cause you think
you are not apart of it
thats why you don`t see
that we struggle

and we want more
more of everything
more of everything

what do you love?

And we live in this moment
like there is no tomorrow
yet we know
it slips away

through those oily fingers
pass petrol stained jeans
to the ground
to the ground

and who do we love?

Nice thoughts. I agree everything flows. If a being dies, the flow of elements continues. There is a lot of material there for a artistic work.
